The average hotel price in Kiev has surged by 36% ahead of Ukraine’s euro host city status next year, according to new statistics.
Hotels.info’s Hotel Price Barometer has found that the average rate increased from EUR96.03 in May 2010 to EUR130.95 in May this year. “Apart from many exhibitions and congresses the considerable price increases may be a taste of things to come during the European Football Championships in 2012. As an official host city the capital city of Ukraine can expect large numbers of international visitors,” the website said in a statement.
Meanwhile, London had seen the second highest price increase in the 20 European cities, which rose 18% from EUR132.73 to EUR156.66. The rise placed our capital as fourth in the most expensive European cities, after Moscow, Oslo and Stockholm. The Norwegian city was placed second despite a 26% drop in hotel rates although these had skyrocketed last year when it held the Eurovision Song Contest. Internationally New York continued to be the most expensive city to stay in, although Buenos Aires, Seoul and Zurich posted average rate increases of 15%, 12% and 10% respectively.
